'Jesus makes All things New'
At our last 'Bridge' we looked at a verse in Revelation 21 (right at the end of the Bible), that described how in the future there would be no tears or pain, and straight after that Jesus says this amazing verse that has struck me for some time now and will continue to excite me more and more as life goes on...'Behold, I am making all things new!'
Sometimes we think that God only works in the future - he'll do great things in the end, but now? well, now we have to wait for it. This is not the promise of this verse - he is not gonna make all things new, he is making all things new. Just like the eager promises you give to your expectant Mum when you say 'I am making my room tidy', rather than 'I will make my room tidy' - which means 'I will do it eventually when I can be bothered'.
NO, Jesus hasm started the job, he hasn't finished by any means, but he has started!
I reckon the proof of this is seen most amazingly in people's lives! People wrecked and ruined, people who have no hope or purpose, people who have stuffed up - meet with Jesus and suddenly....brand-spanking new life! Time and time again I see it or hear about it or experience it.
Luke 8 shows a great story that shows this. Sometimes the 'making new' is a slow process - my life certainly is, but sometimes the transformation is instant - in this bit of the Bible there's this crazy guy - he runs around naked, he lives in the tombs flat-sharing with dead people, he has to be chained to stop him from cutting himself up...and then....well you read it for yourself.
ABSOLUTE AMAZING TRANSFORMATION!
Messed up - Meets with Jesus - Made new!
The same Jesus that makes this guy new is the same Jesus that makes our crazy lives new. We muck things up and seem beyond help sometimes... we have issues, problems that seem to be something that will always be part of our lives. But we also have a God seen in Jesus who makes us new people.
But, he problem is, he can only change what he is given...Do you give it all you the miracle maker?
